Online craps strategy, tips & rules!

The field bet is another good craps strategy. It doesn't have quite as good of odds as the pass line bet with odds behind it but it does have decent odds in comparison to many other bets on the table in craps, and so is good craps strategy especially when you're just learning the game. Most importantly, the field bet is a very simple "one-time" bet, or craps strategy, that can apply to any given roll. The field bet is circled in white in the graphic below for your reference.

As craps strategy, the field bet will be much easier to explain than the pass line bet as its complexity is much less. The field bet is simply a one-time bet that says if the shooter throws a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 then you win. If a 5, 6, 7, or 8 is thrown you lose. It's that simple and that easy, and so it's an excellent craps strategy to choose. Most casinos also give you a bonus if a 2 or a 12 is thrown. I've noticed that most casinos double pay 2x your bet when a 2 or "snake eyes" is thrown and some even pay 3x your bet if a 12 or "midnight" is thrown. Consider that a bonus if you hit those numbers!

Field Bet Example

Let's go back to our friend Jake who just won his first pass line bet from the previous lesson and now Jake wants to change his strategy and try a different but simple bet. Of course, since we are talking about field bets, Jake will make a $5 field bet on this roll. Remember, it doesn't matter if it's the initial come-out roll or a point was established, field bets are always one-time bets and can be made on any portion of the roll.

So, Jake lays his $5 chip on the field and the shooter throws a 6. Alas, Jake lost his $5 bet because 6 is not a winning number on the field bet. Jake tries again and places another $5 bet on the field for this next roll... What do you know, the shooter throws a 4 and Jake wins his bet on this roll. In other words, Jake's craps strategy paid off.

The field bet is one of the easiest bets on the table and even the most novice players can bet this one roll after roll to stay in the exciting environment of a craps table and while learning new craps strategy.

Field Bet Percentages

The Field bet doesn't boast as good of odds as the pass line or come bet but the field is an easy bet for beginners who are just learning craps strategy, and has a better percentage than other bets such as the hard ways or the Big 6 or Big 8.
